Movement, Style, School or Type of Art: "Non-Configurative" (If you are more comfortable with the term "Abstract Expressionism," it would also be applicable.)
Date and Place of Birth: 1942, Borsbeke, Belgium (as Joseph de Schrijver Ars¨¨ne)
Life: Scrivo's paintings are all self-portraits of his emotions on any given day. He paints what he feels, constrained only by the four sides of the canvas. By using non-configurative lines (they don't form or outline anything, they exist as themselves) and contrasting colors (often vibrant), his paintings seem suffused with depth. To this viewer, they look rhythmic, as painted music might look - uplifting, energetic and colorful music.
Important Works:
Life's different roads #150575, 1975 Life's different roads #210586, 1986 Life's different roads #150500, 2000
Actually, all of Scrivo's works are entitled "Life's different roads #(date of execution)." A sort of painted journal, if you will, and a delightfully visual one. |
