Edward Ladell: (English Artist, 1821 - 1886), Edward Ladell was probably the most famous of all Victorian still-life painters. From 1856 he exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institution and Society of British Artists. Ladell and his wife, Ellen, also a painter, lived modestly in Colchester, in Essex. They developed a very distinct style of still life in the traditional Dutch pattern. Their paintings have a Victorian richness of color that makes them instantly recognizable, and their consistently high quality has ensured their continued popularity.
